Born on April 9, 1947, in Oak Park, Lawrence Lee was the son of George and Marion (Lubben) Voss. He graduated from high school in 1965 before enlisting in the United States Army. He proudly served for two years, showing exceptional bravery as a Vietnam veteran and receiving the Purple Heart for his courageous service in the infantry.
Following his military service, Lawrence Lee worked as a janitor at the Naperville School District. He found love and companionship with his wife, Cheryl Kackert, embarking on a joyful life journey together.
A dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Lawrence Lee drew strength and support from the community. He enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing and hunting, as well as reading novels and watching classic western movies that brought him solace.
Lawrence Lee is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and his children Dustin John Voss and Kathy Jo (Voss) Smith. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jada Marie Smith and Brianna Jo Smith, as well as his siblings Bill Voss, Andrew Voss, and Donna Veeneman, brother-in-law Steve Veeneman, and sister-in-law Jane Voss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his children Cory Allen Voss and James Smith, and his youngest brother, George Beverly Voss.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington on Monday, November 17, 2025, followed by a graveside service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. A memorial gathering will follow the service at Baskerville Funeral Home.
