Wilmington announces Route 66 mural contest

The winning artist or group in the Wilmington mural contest will receive $10,000 and have their artwork installed behind Wilmington's Route 66 monument.

According to the announcement, contestants are required to submit mural designs for evaluation. The selected design will be placed on the building directly behind Wilmington's Route 66 monument at South Island Park, opposite the Gemini Giant. Besides the monetary prize, the winner will also be reimbursed for all installation expenses.

Interested participants must send their design and a detailed description to jsmith@wilmington-il.gov between January 7 and February 28, 2025. Designs will be evaluated by the City of Wilmington Mural Selection Committee, with the winner announced on March 11.

Mural installation is scheduled between March 23 and April 27, 2025, in preparation for its reveal on May 3.
